Heritage Farm
The Heritage Farm on 78th street in Vancouver, WA has a rich and diverse history of serving the community beginning in 1873 as the Clark County poor farm. In the 1940’s it became a state agricultural research facility run by Washington State College which later became Washington State University conducting research and implementing technology in farming. Although the property is owned by Clark County, the community mission is still going today thru the efforts of the WSU Clark County Extension Office which is housed in the main building and various other organizations.
The farm itself consists of 79 acres that has a mixture of buildings including greenhouses, community gardens, Heritage orchard, pastureland, cultivated fields, a riparian area and a cemetery. In 2012-2013 it was listed as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places, the Clark County Heritage Register, and the Washington State Historic Property Register.
We invite you to read more about the unique history of the Heritage Farm, its programs and ongoing projects that are part of the WSU Clark County Extension Office.
